WELCOME PARTY

ASSA will again host a Welcome Party at the 2018 National. This fun and informal event will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, starting one hour after completion of Futurity judging in Suite 1A-C located on the second floor of the Virginia Beach Convention Center.  A full buffet dinner will be served. You have the option to purchase the Welcome Party Dinner with the traditional commemorative logo mug for $40.00 per person or the Dinner alone without mug for $35.00 per person. ASSA hopes you will attend the Welcome Party.  What a great way to kick off the National Week! Reserve your space and mug at the Welcome Party on the Master Reservation Form or through PayPal.  Deadline for reservations is April 3, 2018. No refunds will be made after April 3, 2018. Tickets will be distributed at the show.

 

 

FOOD SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

We are reaching out to ASSA members and friends to sponsor our various buffets during the National.  This program has been extremely popular with all who attend the National.  Light continental breakfast, hors d’oeuvres, and bakery/pastry buffets will be offered in the show building during the week.  Handlers and exhibitors who need to be at the building exercising dogs early in the morning appreciate being able to grab something to eat and some fresh coffee  The early birds grabbing the best seats for the first classes are also appreciative.  Handlers, exhibitors, spectators and all who appreciate an adult beverage in the afternoon will enjoy a little snack with it as well.  And our afternoon coffee friends will have a treat to compliment that pick me up.

Sponsorship categories are available at four levels:
            PLATINUM      $500.00 +
            GOLD              $250.00 - $499.99
            SILVER            $150.00 - $249.99
            BRONZE          Whatever you would like to contribute.  Every $$$ helps.

Sponsorships can be made by individuals, clubs, groups of friends, group of clubs, etc; and can be made in honor of a person or a special dog.  All sponsors will be publicly recognized for their generosity via a LARGE sign which will be displayed all week.

PARADES

Parade of Rescued Performance Dogs  This is a non-competitive exhibition open to any Shetland Sheepdog entered in any performance event at this National that was adopted from a Sheltie Rescue group.  This event will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, ½ hour after the completion of Trial judging.  A Rosette will be awarded to each participant.  There is no entry fee.  To register, please use an AKC entry form and attach a short (100 words or less) history of the dog.  Registration for the Parade closes on March 28, 2018.  Mail your completed entry form and history to Barbara Edelberg, 1930 East Viscounti Drive, Sandy UT 84093-1063 or email to barbaraedelberg@xmission.com. Parade of Veterans  There is no entry fee for the Parade of Veterans, but a completed AKC entry form and a short history (100 words or less) of the dog must be submitted.  This event will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, ½ hour after the completion of Futurity judging.  This is a noncompetitive exhibition open to any TITLED SHETLAND SHEEPDOG over the age of 10 years and not adopted from rescue.  Registration for the Parade closes on March 28, 2018.  To register, send a completed AKC entry form and history of the dog to Rita Von Pusch 908 North Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa FL 33609, or e-mail to ritavonpusch@mac.com.  Note:  If sending "overnight," please indicate "signature not required."

VISITING HOURS

The grooming area will be the showplace for visiting hours, which will be held on Friday evening, April 27, 2018.  Layouts, pedigrees, photos, business cards, and displays are encouraged.  Please remember, no puppies under 6 months of age and no “For Sale” signs allowed.  The 2018 event will be fun and festive with a cash bar and refreshments.

 

Contest for Best Decorated Grooming Space, and People’s Choice award.

The grooming space decorating competition is a fun way to help bring the energy and enthusiasm of past Nationals back to Visiting Hours. We’re excited to offer the competition again in 2018. There will be a PEOPLE’S CHOICE/WINNER’S AWARD in which the winner gets a free grooming space at the 2019 National, a beautiful rosette AND they get to choose where within the ASSA the funds raised are donated.  So the incentives to go all out with your decorations are greater than ever.  GAMBLERS: (No charge to enter) E-mail Lynette Stewart at lynets4@aol.com prior to the National or at the National once you know your grooming space number, come to the catalog sales table and tell them you are participating in the grooming space competition. You will be given an ID card with your space number on it to display at your grooming space. Put in a visible place for voters to see on Friday.  BETTORS:  Tickets will be sold all day Friday ($1.00 per ticket, $5.00 for 6 tickets, $10.00 for 15 tickets, $20.00 for 30 tickets). Beginning at 6:00 PM, write the grooming space number of your choice on your ticket(s) – one grooming space per ticket.  Place your wages (your completed tickets) into the jar near the food buffet. Judging will conclude at 9:00 PM. The winner, total amount raised and the winner’s fund designation will be announced Saturday in the ring at the conclusion of Winners Dog. Questions? BEST ALL AROUND SHELTIE

The Best All Around Sheltie will be determined for Shelties that enter and compete in at least 4 of 5 National events: Breed, Obedience, Rally, Agility and Herding. Points are awarded for participation and placement or score in each event. There is no fee for the competition, but advanced registration is required. See the "ASSA Best All Around Sheltie" form for competition rules, point values and Registration Form.
